How Your Support Helps

With the generous support of people like you, the Louisiana Lung Cancer Partnership is working with the National Lung Cancer
Partnership to save lives by funding lung cancer research,
educating the public about lung cancer and advocating for better
diagnosis, treatment and understanding of the disease.

Of every dollar the National Lung Cancer Partnership raises, 82 cents directly support:

Research

Since 2005, the Partnership has awarded more than $3 million for cutting-edge research that is essential to helping patients live longer and better lives. The Partnership has also emphasized funding research of young investigators, who will provide the future human capital to drive lung cancer research advances.

Patient and Physician Education

A variety of free materials are available from the Partnership to help patients and their families better understand lung cancer, learn about treatments and clinical trials, and connect with others impacted by the disease, including:

  • Living With a Diagnosis of Lung Cancer, a recently revised booklet, available in English and Spanish, for newly-diagnosed patients.
  • Print & e-newsletters, including the Lung Cancer Voice, report the latest news about lung cancer research and treatments to educate the public, patients and health care professionals.
  • Inspirational stories, including real-life stories of patients with lung cancer and survivor blogs on our website.
  • Other online patient resources, including Understanding Early Stage Treatment Options and a Clinical Trials Matching Service
  • Health care professional resources, such as our Annual Meeting and resources provided through our AccessTLC program, which is designed to quantify and reduce the time it takes for a person with lung cancer to be diagnosed and treated.

Public Awareness

The National Lung Cancer Partnership strives to increase public awareness of lung cancer through programs such as our:
  • Free to Breathe® event series, which has grown from one event in 2006 to more than 35 events nationwide in 2011.
  • Look Deeper public service announcement campaign, which has gained national recognition, appearing in media such as Good Morning America, CNN and the Los Angeles Times.
  • Lung Cancer Advocacy Summit, an annual conference that provides advocates with the training, resources, knowledge and courage to take action to fight lung cancer in their communities.
  • Chapter program, an expanding network of grassroots advocates working to defeat lung cancer. Three state chapters exist so far, with several others in development.
